"My name is Neeti and I am a 3rd year ECE student at UT. Ever since I was little, I found the tech industry incredibly thrilling and alluring. Each day would bring upon new innovations, adding upon the already impressive developments, and there would be this circle of growth.
Maintaining this passion for growth is important, not only for the technical advancements, but also for personal development and for individual work in the workplace. I find that this is difficult especially during the school year, in which students struggle to keep themselves afloat above both their studies, and the typical engineering pressures and stereotypes.
For instance, I personally had my share of impostor syndrome, feeling a continuous sense of inadequacy amongst my peers. Everyone appeared to be natural geniuses, and to fit that mold, I hid parts of myself. I would shy away from being vulnerable or from sticking out; I would not ask questions in lectures or even dress up in the cute new outfits I originally envisioned. I was not my authentic self without even realizing it.
This anxiety stagnated my learnings and personal development. However, speaking to others in the engineering community and realizing that so many face the same struggles was both eye-opening and empowering. Breaking the silence really helped me accept myself fully and become confident in my own abilities. The only way for growth is to put oneself out there, and I am thankful and excited to be able to do so and continue these important conversations through Re-sonate!"
