I’m Hridita Hossain, a second year Management Information Systems major pursuing an Elements of Computing certificate at the University of Texas at Austin. Most who knew me before college were surprised to learn that I was majoring in a technology-related field. I have never expressed interest in the area and usually gravitated towards fields unrelated to STEM. When it came time to explore my options for the future, I did not once consider a career in technology because I was not confident that I could be successful. Thanks to McCombs, I was able to find my passion in MIS and am now facing opportunities that high school me would never have imagined for myself. Now, however, I am dealing with a new wave of apprehension for the technology industry as I find myself competing in a male-dominated field. Re-sonate is the initiative we need to provide support, encouragement, and empowerment to women. It can help build a network and community for women, and most importantly, foster confidence and ambition amongst the members. It is a great way to ensure that women do not avoid a career where they can just as likely succeed and excel. I truly look forward to the Re-sonate convention and being surrounded by inspiring and like-minded individuals who are all paving the way into their respective careers.
