The Intersection Between Biochemistry and Tech

Writer's picture: Re-sonateRe-sonate

My name is Jessica Ngo and I am a second year Biochemistry major. When people hear about technology, many will think of engineering, computer science, or any tech-heavy fields. However, technology is used in almost every field including biochemistry. In the this field, technology is used in laboratories to analyze data allowing biochemists to understand and solve complex biological problems. In general, technology is advancing quickly and is present in most aspects of our daily life, yet many women shy away from technology fields either due to lack of support and encouragement or the intimidation of a predominantly male field. This is why female empowerment is extremely important to me. Having worked with a lot of elementary school girls in a STEM based after school club, I have noticed that many do not have female role models, especially women in tech. Most of the students usually know who Steve Jobs or Bill Gates are, but none of them can name a single successful woman in technology or even understand what working with technology really means. I am so excited to attend the Re-sonate convention because empowering women like me will help inspire the future female leaders in technology.
